Otsuka Electronics Co., Ltd. (hereinafter Otsuka Electronics; headquarters: Hirakata City, Osaka; representative director and president: Kuniaki Natsume) and On-chip Biotechnologies Co., Ltd. (hereinafter On-chip; headquarters: Kokubunji City, Tokyo; president: Masayuki Kobayashi) announces that it has reached an agreement on a capital and business alliance.
On-chip is a company that has developed and commercialized the world's first disposable microfluidic chip cell sorter (product name: On-chip Sort). Utilizing a disposable microfluidic chip, On-chip Sort offers significant advantages compared to conventional cell sorters, such as damage-free/contamination-free cell sorting and easy operation/maintenance.
In 2021, On-chip also commercialized a droplet generator (product name: On-chip Droplet Selector), the world's only product capable of analyzing, separating, and single-droplet dispensing of oil-containing water droplets by utilizing the aforementioned microfluidic chip technology.
These innovations are revolutionizing the screening methods of living microorganisms and cells, and it is expected that those discovered useful microorganisms and genes will greatly contribute to solve global societal issues.
Through this collaboration with On-chip, Otsuka Electronics will accelerate innovation in the biotechnology field, including the exploration and analysis of microorganisms, cells, and genes.
